The 8 Questions You Need to Ask Before Hiring Team Members

Growing a Successful Team_ The 8 Questions You Need to Ask Before Hiring Team Members

Creating a successful real estate team has never been more important in the real estate market. With so many opportunities to work with new clients and generate leads, when you have the right team members, you have the power to dominate your local market. In order to create that winning team, you need to know what questions to ask during the interview process. Here are eight questions that you need to ask recruiting new team members in order to find those top performers who are going to help you win.

Do you have written goals you want to accomplish? Tell me about them.

With this question, you are looking for indications of maturity, focus, planning ability, and desire for achievement. When selecting real estate team members, you want to find agents who are focused and ready to put in the work, not someone who thinks you’re going to hand them leads and all they have to do is show the houses.

Where would you like to see yourself in five years?

When you ask someone where they want to be in five years,  you are looking for their vision and goals. When you’re putting together a real estate team, it’s important that everyone is on the same page with where they want to be in order to work as a unit and aim for those big deals instead of just working part-time at your brokerage.

What are you looking for in a real estate team lead?

As a real estate team lead, you’re going to be viewed as a leader, so you need to have an idea of what their expectations are of you.  Knowing this right off the bat is going to save you time down the road when it comes to managing and growing your team because everyone is on the same page with what you have to offer.

Tell me about a time you failed and what you learned from the experience.

No one likes to talk about failure, but it happens to the best of us. The goal of asking this questions is to open a deeper discussion on resiliency, personal responsibility, and tendencies under pressure.

What will you bring to the team?

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses as a real estate agent. By asking what they can offer the team, it provides them the opportunity to tell you what assets they bring to the table and allows both of you to see how they can fit within your organization.

What is the one thing you would improve about yourself?

We all have things we can improve on,  and oftentimes, we know what those things are. By asking this question in the interview process, you’re not only finding out where they think they can improve but also how open and receptive they would be to constructive criticism from their team lead.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life and why?

By learning who has influenced their life,  you can learn a lot about their background and the values they hold. After all, you want people who share similar core values as your real estate team because it will make for an easier working relationship.

If you were to fail in this business, what do you think the reason would be?

It’s no secret that nearly 80% of agents fail within the first two years of getting licensed, but many can’t admit to why they failed. By asking what they believe the reason would be behind their failure,  you’ll get an idea of their mindset when it comes to personal responsibility.

Conclusion

As you’re growing your team, it’s crucial you take the time to meet and hire the right agents that are going to help you succeed.  By asking these eight questions during the interview process, you’ll have a better understanding of whether or not an agent is the right fit.

Do you think these are good questions that will help make an informed decision when hiring new agents. What do you think? Was there anything else that should have been added? Let us know in the comments!
